Hi there, my name is Juliet and I have two adorable children aged 3 years and 1 year. I became very interested in natural products and treatments following the birth of my daughter, now aged 3. The birth was quite long and painful and I became extremely tired and distressed because everything was taking such an age. After the actual birth, some 20 hours later, I felt like a zombie; totally out of it, very sore, and not very interested in my new baby.
I know everyone says the pain is soon forgotten, and to a certain extent that is true, but once I became pregnant for the second time, the events of the first pregnancy were gnawing away at the back of my mind. I was keen to find some alternative natural treatments that would hopefully make the second birth easier and do away with medical pain relief.
I started researching on the internet and was very interested to learn about Maternity Acupressure. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know the first thing about acupressure but the more I delved into it and read various posts in forums, I began to think that acupressure could be the way forward.
For those of you who know nothing about acupressure, basically it is very similar to acupuncture but instead of using needles, the thumbs and fingertips are used to massage specific pressure points. Acupressure is a branch of Chinese medicine based on the belief that health is governed by a life force (qi) which flows through the body by means of 12 channels or meridians which correspond with various organs. The use of acupressure is intended to balance out the body both emotionally and physically, leaving a person feeling invigorated and stress free.
Maternity acupressure, as its name implies, is specifically used for pregnancy related symptoms such as nausea and back ache as well as for naturally inducing labor and relieving painful birth contractions.
I purchased an E-book that I found on the internet called “Easier, Shorter and Safer Birth” and within minutes was able to download it and start reading. Because of its simplicity, anyone can learn the technique with just a few basic instructions and both myself and my husband were able to practice locating the pressure points.
My son decided that he didn’t want to arrive on his due date, and a week later I was getting very frustrated and miserable. I just wanted the baby out! With the threat of a medical induction looming, my husband and I decided to try the acupressure techniques to bring on labor. I was a little sceptical, but the very next day my contractions started in a big way, and just 3 hours later I gave birth. What’s more I didn’t even need to ask for any pain relief because my husband was able to use the techniques described in the book, to lessen the pain of my contractions. This time round, I felt exhilarated and bonded straight away with my baby. I was even able to come home a couple of hours later. I’m glad I used acupressure and I only wished I had known about it before.
